Oh It has been awhile since I have thought of this little book. I read it in my classroom years ago. It is wonderful to hear the back story of your writing. I am off to find my copy for a quick little read tonight. Thanks for sharing!
This book was one of the best books I read as a kid, dealing with loss for the first time and unsure how to talk to the adults in my life about it. This book made me feel like I was not alone (like all great literature!) and made me yearn for a lookout rock of my own.
Oh thank you for telling this story. You were indeed not alone, and its often literature/art that tells us so, the same has happened to me. I gift you Comfort's rock, anytime you need it. :> xo
Wow! What a powerful backstory for a wonderful book! I think of Each Little Bird that Sings every Christmas when I hear the song about “good tidings of comfort and joy.” I’m going to download the book and re-re-read it ❤️
I love how some readers catch on to the fact that most of the family is named after words in "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen." And I love that you are going to re-read Little Bird. Thank you. xo
No need to remember it! I had made up this entire backstory in my head, of how Bunch, Comfort's father and the undertaker, was so tired of funeral songs, so he sang Christmas carols while he worked. :> And voila, these other character names came to me.
Thanks for sharing today Debbie. I'm very familiar with the darkness that comes with loss and depression. I think it's part of being human. I'm also grateful to have been able to climb out of that darkness. It makes me happy for you to see that you've been able to find the strength and the help from your friends and family to not give up. We are not alone although it sometimes feels that way.
Michael, it takes a fellow traveler to recognize another. We are not alone, indeed. The motto on the sign out from of Snowberger's Funeral Home is "We Live to Serve." It makes me think of you these days. xo
You tell the best stories about your books!
I hope you recognize yourself in there. All love to you. xo

I couldn’t remember the title of the song while I was commenting. Thanks!
